Profile: Dr Patel manages and investigates patients with general heart-related (cardiac) problems e.g. chest pain, palpitations, dizzy spells, breathlessness and murmurs. Coronary angioplasty/stent/ pressure wire/ intravascular ultrasound/ rotational atherectomy (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, PCI)Dr Patel qualified from the University of Wales, College of Medicine in 1992. He undertook his specialist training in Cardiology on The London Deanery Training Programme, principally at St Thomas’ Hospital. During this time, he received full training in all aspects of adult cardiology including coronary angiography (cardiac catheterisation), permanent pacemaker implantation, echocardiography (transthoracic and transoesophageal, Adult BSE Transthoracic Accredited).
During his research training fellowship, he investigated the use of non-invasive techniques to assess vascular function enabling the prediction of cardiovascular risk. The findings of this research have been published and presented at peer-reviewed national and international cardiovascular meetings.
Having then secured an interventional cardiology training fellowship at St Thomas Hospital, he received comprehensive, high-quality exposure and training in conventional percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with balloon angioplasty and intracoronary stents, adjunctive techniques such as intravascular ultrasound and use of the intracoronary PressureWire as well as rotational atherectomy. He was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist in 2005.

Profile: Dr. Alfakih qualified in 1993 from st. Bartholomew’s Medical College, London. He undertook his Cardiology training in Leeds and Nottingham Cardiac Centres, specialising in Diagnostic Cardiac Imaging. He is BSE accredited in Transthoracic and Transoesophageal Echocardiography as well as having SCCT level III accreditation in Cardiac CT.
His research was funded by a junior British Heart Foundation fellowship and was undertaken in the Institute of Genetics and the BHF Cardiac MRI unit in Leeds, leading to an MD and over 20 peer reviewed articles. He was appointed Consultant Cardiologist to Lewisham University and King’s College Hospitals in 2008 where as well as General Cardiology he performs Stress and Transoesophageal Echocardiography, Cardiac CT, Cardiac MR and Cardiac Pacing. He leads clinical governance and research in cardiology in Lewisham.

Profile: Mr Mark George qualified form St Mary's Hospital in 1991 and is a specialist in advanced primary and recurrent colorectal cancer. His higher surgical training was undertaken in the South East London Region. His research was performed at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research and was awarded his Master of Surgery in 2002.
He was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon to Guys and St Thomas' Hospitals in 2003 and is lead clinician for colorectal cancer. He is interested in laparoscopic colorectal surgery and is a specialist in the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer and is the regional anal cancer surgeon.
His other surgical expertise includes pilonidal sinus surgery, haemorrhoids, fistula and fissure surgery and treatment thereof, general surgery, ie. appendicectomy, inguinal, umbilical, sports and abdominal hernia repairs.

Profile: Dr Flann graduated from King’s College School of Medicine, London in 2000, attaining Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (London) in 2003. She started her Dermatology training at the world renowned St John’s Institute of Dermatology, London and then built upon this by gaining experience in the dermatology departments of King’s College Hospital, St George’s Hospital and Orpington Hospital where she obtained the Royal College of Physicians Speciality Certificate in Dermatology.
She presents at a variety of national and international meetings including the British Association of Dermatology, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, the American Academy of Dermatology and the World Congress in Paediatric Dermatology.
Dr Flann sees patients with general dermatological problems such as eczema and psoriasis & skin cancers and holds a weekly dermatology surgical list at Orpington Hospital. She has a specialist interest in paediatric dermatology and allergy and is studying for a postgraduate MSc in Allergy at Imperial College so that she can bring the most up-to-date knowledge in this rapidly developing area to her patients.

Profile: Muriel Gall is a dietitian and nutritionist registered with the Health Professions Council. She graduated in 1979 with a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Robert Gordon’s Institute of Technology, Aberdeen and has worked abroad and in various posts in the NHS for over thirty years.
Since 1997, she has worked for Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley NHS Trust, as a Senior Dietitian, undertaking general out-patient clinics seeing patients with gastrointestinal disorders and in the community with stroke patients as well as nutritional support of residents in care homes. In 2011, she received training on the new FODMAP dietary approach to treating irritable bowel syndrome.
For six years until 2010, she represented the British Dietetic Association on the Royal College of Physicians, Intercollegiate Working Party for Stroke producing national clinical guidelines on stroke management and in 2010 was presented with an Ibex Award by the British Dietetic Association for ‘outstanding professional achievement’. She has been the lead on a number of projects evaluating dietetic practice that have been published in professional journals.

Profile: Dr Martin Jones is a medical doctor and GP who specialises in acupuncture. He studied medicine at Bristol University, qualifying as a doctor in 1994, and completed his training as a General Practitioner in 1999.
Before going into medicine, he graduated from London University with a language degree in Chinese. It was during his time as a language student in Beijing that he first became interested in Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Since then his knowledge of Chinese has enabled him to study acupuncture at the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and several of the top hospitals in China. Profile: Mr Christos Tolias has been a Consultant Neurosurgeon at King’s College Hospital since September 2005. He has a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Warwick and extensive research experience in traumatic brain injury and the mechanisms of brain cell death. He undertook specialist training in neurosurgery in Liverpool and Birmingham followed by a Clinical Fellowship in Richmond, Virginia, USA. He is the Lead Neurovascular Surgeon at King’s College Hospital and the Associate Clinical Director for Trauma.
He is the first surgeon in the UK to perform the non-occlusive cerebral vascular bypass technique. In addition to his expertise in degenerative spine disease which includes the management of back and neck pain, arm pain and sciatica together with peripheral nerve disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome; he has specialist expertise in the management of neurovascular conditions ( e.g. cerebral aneurysms, AVMs, cavernomas, AV fistulas), the surgical treatment of stroke (decompressive craniectomy and revascularisation for Moya-Moya and Sickle Cell anaemia) and trauma. Mr Lyons graduated from the University of London in 1990, and trained in Maxillofacial and Head and Neck Surgery on the South Coast Rotation.
Mr Lyons has published over 15 original articles in peer reviewed medical journals and has authored 3 chapters in the new Textbook of Operative Maxillofacial Surgery. He has run a number of international courses and conferences at both Guy’s and the Royal College of Surgeons

Profile: Mr Tony Kochhar is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. He is an expert in surgery of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. He completed his training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London. He has furthered his shoulder and upper limb training by working with some of the best surgeons in the world, having completed specialist fellowships at worldwide centres of excellence in New York and the world-renowned Alps Surgery Institute in Annecy, France.

Dr Singer is now in full time private practice in general paediatrics and has a particular interest in Neurodevelopmental paediatrics and Allergy. He also covers all aspects of paediatric medicine.
He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Child Health at Imperial College and has published many research papers and chapters in Paediatrics.
